“Once a cheater, always a cheater” we’ve all heard this phrase right? Yes cheating may be bad, but so is drunk eating eight slices of pizza in one sitting…okay not entirely the same thing, but I’m a little bit over this whole “cheating” thing. Call me insensitive, but think about what we are talking about here people. You thought someone really liked you, and then they didn’t. You thought that shirt you ordered on Tobi was going to look good on you too and it didn’t. So what do you do… sit and sulk thinking you’ll never find another shirt ever again…wrong. You return that piece of shit shirt and get an even better one that fits in all the right places.
At this point in our lives we don’t have the time to be crying over the person that hurt us. And at this point in our lives we are not going to be the same people. We might not even be the same person within a 24 hour time period. You don’t have a problem making the mistake of drinking too much one night and throwing that back deep down in the memory black hole, so why do we have such a hard time forgetting about those who have cheated us or if we have been the cheater? Speaking as a complete third party on the matter (okay you caught me, I’ve dabbled in the cheating-sphere) but do I think that just because I made the mistake of cheating one time that for the rest of my life I will be a cheater? I absolutely do not and if you think differently then so be it.
The fact is we’re going to make mistakes and we are going to date mistakes, and that’s okay. We have four years to do things that we may never get the chance to do ever again. We also have four years to make our biggest mistakes and not really suffer any real tough consequences. Every day we are given the opportunity to start over. If you cheated, fess up, own it, apologize and then move on. You’re not a bad person; you just made a bad decision, but who hasn’t? (and if you say otherwise you’re a liar and I don’t like you.) And if you’ve been cheated on, that really sucks. Sorry if that was blunt. But I’m sure it absolutely does. But this gives you the upper hand. Frankly, you’re benefitting from this a lot more than you think. Don’t blame yourself, forgive and forget that other person and move on just like the universe had intended you to do. Everything happens for a reason and I’m a firm believer in that. Shitty things happen so we can learn from it and get these amazing life lessons that will be the best things we take from this college experience. We have way more important and frankly better things to be worrying about than “cheating.”
