The Ups And Downs Of A Flirtationship

Flirtationship (n) – A social situation that comprises of more than a friendship, but less than a relationship; when you regularly flirt with a friend but do no more.

Flirtationships are tricky because they have no definitive lines. At the moment, this relationship is nothing. But could it be something? One person may think participating in a flirtationship could lead to something serious. Another could think that a flirtationship is just a something light and easy with no strings attached.

The main aspect of a flirtationship is that nothing physical has occurred. There’s TONS of compliments exchanged, giggles, maybe some hand holding – but any kind of hook up beyond that would be a friends with benefits situation. Which is a whole other can of crazy.

The upside of a flirtationship is that you are likely getting the attention you need. It occupies your time and satisfies your need for a little positive interaction. Especially when you’re not ready for a relationship. It barely takes up any of your real time because a flirtationship takes place mainly over texting and the Internet, with a couple hang outs here and there.

The downside of a flirtationship is if you want a relationship, this is not the most direct way to get to it. Because nothing physical has happened, it’s kind of clear that there is a line that has been drawn and hasn’t been crossed yet for a reason. Of course the innocence of a flirtationship is appealing and may seem like it could lead to an awesome relationship – but there’s usually a reason that you’re in a flirtationship and not a committed relationship.

So if you’re looking for fun and attention, go for the flirtationship. But don’t try to take it to the next level without knowing all the facts. Lines are often tip toed over in flirtationships, in order to test the water. It’s way safer than a friends with benefits situation and who knows – maybe you’ll take it to the next level at some point. If all the signs are there. Until then – just enjoy your simple flirtationship.

  1. How is this not getting like a gazillion Likes! Rosie – you have really nailed the kind of thing that seems to happen all the time on WordPress – totally nailed it. Did you write that or did you get the idea from somewhere else? Either way – love it to bits. Please can you let me know every time you write a new article because yours are AWESOME!

      1. Oh yes – lots of different kinds of people too – ones that you might not think would be compatible in ‘real life’. It’s as if people can just be the real selves that they are inside and they act accordingly in WordPress. It’s really interesting.
And you’re welcome, Rosie. You deserve a much wider audience for your stuff – have you ever considered pulling your stuff together into a book? You have a strong theme that would totally work in that format. How many articles have you written now?

      2. (one) download them all (WordPress probably has a facility)
(two) put them all in one document
(three) format the document with titles, main text etc.
(four) write an intro and an outro
(five) get a suitable picture and put a book title and your name on it
(six) open an account with Kindle Direct
(seven) upload the text and the cover and fill in the other boxes on the submit form
        (eight) tell everybody about it
(nine) start on the next volume
It’s pretty straightforward really and shouldn’t take more than a day or so. 🙂
If you need any help with any of it, let me know. I can do all sorts of stuff. Plus – I’ve published a book using the same process. It took me 18 months of thinking about it, and a couple of hours of actually doing it. The most paralysing thing is your doubts (that you might not be putting it out in the best way and with the best format and the best words and the best edit and the best order and the best …) so try not to think about it too much – just do it, Rosie.

  2. If someone is a hopeless romantic and lonely then I have a feeling they’d hope a flirtationship would lead to more and I don’t mean fwb!
