Being Your Own #1 Fan

We just don’t give ourselves enough credit.

I spend all day on Instagram looking at celebrities and wishing that I could look like them. I look at other bloggers and wish I could have as much of an impact as them. I read about my friend’s lives on Twitter and Facebook and wish I was as cool as them.

We always want to be someone else. We want to look like anything but ourselves, be anything but ourselves, and do something other than what we’ve been doing. But why? What’s so wrong with being ourselves?

Because there’s probably someone who wishes they could look like you. And there are probably people who wish that they could make as much of an impact as you. And there are most likely people who wish they were as cool as you. The grass always looks greener on the other side – but really it’s time to start watering your own lawn.

If you don’t think you’re the coolest person you know, then how do you expect other people to think those things about you? You need to be your own #1 fan. You need to know your worth, show your worth, give everyone something to look at and take a good hard look at yourself.

Your instagram is bomb and you should give yourself a like. You should self promote the heck out of yourself. You should believe in yourself. And it’s cheesy to throw yourself a like, or a retweet, or give yourself a shout out – but who cares? If you don’t, then really no one else will either.

You should think the best of yourself and that’s all anyone will see. If you’re your own #1 fan, then other fans will follow. Love yourself and inspire others to want to love themselves. There’s no use in being unhappy and trying to be something you’re not when you are the best you that there could ever be.

  1. Couldn’t agree more! Many times, we as individuals seek for for others to validate us, our actions, feelings, etc. BEFORE we walk our own path. It should be the opposite, as you postulate. Its so simple, but its true, and effective. This has helped me greatly for a long time once realizing the mistakes made by me in the past. Another issue is that society tends to want to mold us in how to think, how to act, how to dress, so that’s also in great part a reason why many people seek for resolution from society rather than themselves. Your post reminds me of one of my favorite quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson:

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”

Anyways, thanks for sharing. Sage words.

    1. Thanks for commenting πŸ™‚ It is sucha freeing feeling to finally love yourself in a world that really lacks so much love. While it’s nice when others validate us, we should really be able to do it ourselves!

  2. I see I see what you can’t see.
The dire wish and dreams of being another me.

Do we not all look at ourselves that way in the mirror. in between looking at others. seeing the ugly and not hearing the truth. We can be a sad bunch.

I will drink to this! Grin! cheers

Still spending way to much time on any of these sites will only lessen the time you can truly enjoy being yourself out there in the free world.

  3. As a whole I think it’s hard for us to realize that complementing someone else doesn’t mean anything bad for ourselves. Thinking someone is beautiful doesn’t make you any less of a hottie and saying someone else’s job is cool doesn’t mean yours sucks. We can love others and want to be like others without it making ourselves any less of the original bomb.com domain.

  4. Rosie I’ve been worrying myself since ‘liking’ Ranting Crow’s comment, I don’t regret pressing like because in life if one make’s a choice, then one must stand by why they made that choice, but I hope you don’t think I was being critical, it’s just I’m pretty disillusioned with internet dating, I can’t help but agree ‘enjoy being yourself out there in the free world’ is a good quote πŸ™‚
