Up until this year, I didn’t like coffee. I stuck with my usual tea and Diet Coke to get my caffeine fix. But slowly I’ve become obsessed with iced coffee and cold brew and now I’m cutting it all out – and it hurts, guys.
I am generally an over-thinker and it doesn’t really stop when I sleep, especially when I’m stressed out. I haven’t been sleeping well at all the past couple of weeks and it’s taken a major toll on me, so I’ve been ordered to give up caffeine for 2-3 weeks to see if it makes a difference. This is being paired with regular exercise.
I switched out my morning tea for decaf and haven’t touched a Diet Coke or coffee in days. I thought I was pretty snappy and cranky when I couldn’t sleep, but without caffeine it seems to be 10 times worse. I told myself I’d allow some cheat days, but I really do want to be able to sleep better so I think I have to at least make it through the work week without any caffeine.
I was told to cut it cold turkey, which seemed a little drastic but now makes sense. It wasn’t so hard, but at the end of the day I get headaches and want to go to bed at 5:30 pm. Which is no good.
Have you ever cut out caffeine? I would love to hear how your experience went, if you’d be able to do it, or if you have any tips!

Good luck! I gave it up for awhile and it was great. I subbed for green tea, which is still full of caffeine I guess but it is better than coffee. I remember feeling very clean, but I did have lots of headaches!

Thanks!! I think once I cut it out for a while, I can go to having a cup a day instead of the 2-3 I was having before. Soooo many headaches right now though lol

That is what I experienced. when I stopped I was able to kick the habit of drinking multiple cups a day. Now I can have one small cup in the morning easily.

I don’t drink anything with caffeine (never have), but I have the same withdrawal symptoms when I cut out sugar. It’s really hard to detox cold turkey, but the symptoms go away after about a week

A week seems sooo long when I’m this tired haha I’ve never tried to cut out sugar, I don’t think I could do it!

I’ve always wished I liked coffee but then I realized it wasn’t that great for me so I should be happy that I only like water lol!!

Way to go girl! I gave up coke and all the fizzy drinks last month and by the end of the month I felt like I don’t really need those any more 🙂 I still have a diet coke probably once in 2 weeks but the situation is under control now! You can do it 🙂

No, I never cut it out completely. I’m an ‘all things in moderation’ kind of believer when I can stick to it. One a day is good if I’m cutting back

Me too, but if it’ll help me sleep better I will definitely try!

Nope. The struggle would be on. I can give up diet sodas, but not coffee. Ugh! Wishing you much success with this.

I don’t think I could do it! I drink a quad shot of espresso every day and I also get the headaches without it. Sending you so much luck! You can do it! 😄

Thank you!! I’ve been trying to go every three days then have a cup because the head aches have been awful!

The first couple of days it was great then it got a little worse again so I’m hoping for more improvement!

I think I’d be able to give up drinking caffeine. I’d just have to drink a lot of decaff and herbal teas to remedy the lack of flavor and warmth in my life!

I’ve always been one of those people that say why would you EVER drink decaf but now that I’m cutting back I actually enjoy decaf teas and sodas 🙂
