My Word For 2019

For the past two years, I’ve decided to designate a word to my new year instead of resolutions. In 2017, my word was enough and in 2018, my word was presence. I think about my words from time to time throughout the year and never really feel like I’m accomplishing them until I reflect back. Enough has really made an appearance in my life, I have accepted a lot about myself in the past two years and am generally happy. I am still working on presence and I think that’s mostly due to scrolling through social media so often. But I’m aware of the problem and that means I’m closer to fixing it.

My word for 2019 is going to be adventure. While I like to put on a brave face and show everyone how much I love to do new things, new things actually make me extremely nervous. Traveling, moving, starting something new all give me anxiety and actually give me migraines.

But I’m starting 2019 off with a bang by moving out of state, starting a new job, and basically a new life. I know I will have to make new friends, explore a new area, and balance everything I’m leaving behind in New Jersey.

I’ve decided to accept the adventure and carry that feeling with me throughout the year. It will all be a new learning experience, but I’m going to make it fun and I’m going to make the best of it. Despite the anxiety, I know this is a great step for me so I just need to embrace my adventurous side and see where things take me.

Let me know your word for 2019 below!

  1. I love the idea of a focus word for the year. I don’t have one, but I really like yours and think it fits perfectly with what you will be experiencing this year. So here’s to a year full of adventure! 🙂

Happy New Year friend and good luck on your move and new job and everything!!

  2. I guess if I were to pick a word for 2019, it’d be motorcycle. 🙂 Can’t wait for the weather to warm up so I can hit the streets with 2 wheels!

Can’t wait to see where this year takes you my friend!

  4. For me, I think Stability would be a good word for 2019. It’s not something I’ve experienced in recent years and, even though I’m not sure it’s something I’ll really experience in the coming months, it sure would be nice to achieve by this time next year.

    1. That is a great word! I think when it comes to setting these kinds of intentions for our year, we have to do it little by little. Focus on the small things you can stabilize and hopefully the rest will follow

  5. I like the idea of having a 2019 word as opposed to 2019 resolutions. First of all, it seems easier to remember haha. But if I had to choose a word for 2019 in my life, it would definitely be “mindfulness” …

  6. I love this! I never would have thought of doing it this way. I would have to say my word for 2019 is creativity. Using creativity to live on a strict budget, creativity in my writing, creativity in raising my boys.

  7. I really love the idea of you having A word for every year, I haven’t tried that yet but I guess I will summon up courage to do that but however I really wanted to use this year to focus on so many great things that I have started last year but then I usually loose focus in the middle of every great thing I start maybe because I always want things to happen so fast 😂.
I wish you the best of luck for the year and I hope you enjoy your new phase

  8. I really liked the thought of having a word for a year. I used to have an attitude or maybe a habit but a word sounds even better. Thanks for sharing it with us. I decided my word this year would be “ persistence” 🙂

  9. This is the first I’ve come across a ‘word’ for the year and what a great idea! Really love it, if I chose a word I would stick to it would be ‘goals’ simply to make myself have more of them and complete them. Good luck with your word of 2019 !
