Moving Out Of State – First Impressions

New Hampshire and I didn’t necessarily get off on the right foot. It can seem kind of glamorous to get up and leave the world behind, start somewhere new. But in reality, it’s very very difficult. And I knew that coming into it and I also didn’t set myself up to be in a situation where I would love it right off the bat.

I immediately jumped into a new job when I got here, a job that is much more demanding and requires me to learn a lot in a short period of time. And my boyfriend isn’t moving up with me until the end of the month which means I’ve had a lot of quiet evenings and quiet weekends.

I’m not really one for making friends and I knew that would be my biggest challenge coming up here. It’s too early for me to knock a place because of that. I’ve piled far too much on my plate (as I always do) so my first impression of moving out of state has not been a great one. Especially because we were dumped with snow which put off my boyfriend’s plans to come visit me.

I miss him and my dog and my lizard. I was well-adjusted to living together, to coming home to someone or something every day. Now it’s very very quiet and my apartment is still filled to the brim with boxes and is just a hot mess honestly. I suck at unpacking. I’m kind of just going through the motions in January, knowing that it will be better here in February.

When people start over somewhere new, they make it seem so adventurous and amazing. So I wanted to share my first impressions with you, as that is not always the case.

  1. I’ve never moved out of state and I can’t imagine what it would be like living with snow, BUT just take it one day at a time. Unpack one box a day or try visiting a new place every day and keep remembering that it will get better and soon you will all be together again.
I think you taking this HUGE step is so wonderful. I’ve always dreamed of moving, but I don’t think I would have the guts. I’m rooting for you. πŸ™‚

  2. Joshua & I are considering moving across the country later this year, and it’s so intimidating! As exciting as it sounds, it’s also pretty overwhelming to me. There’s just so so so many changes and things to think about. O.O Thanks for sharing your honesty! ❀

  3. I definitely experienced something similar when I had moved to San Diego for a brief period of time. I also did not set myself up for success so it was extremely difficult. I’m definitely going to move out there again and this post definitely reassured me to push past the tough times.
It may be challenging now but things will get better girlie! All the way from PA, I’ll be cheering you on!

  4. I moved to Florida a few years ago. It so fun at first. I loved it. New place, new scenery, new people and new job. Live was going so great for me. And then I got into two months of being there and I started to miss my family in CA (where I used to live). But most of all, my son. I kissed my baby, my world. I stayed for a couple months in and then I just couldn’t anymore. Seeing my son on FaceTime just wasn’t enough for me. I quickly bought a ticket and packed my stuff, I was going home (back to CA). Needless to say, I’m in CA living my best life because what matters to me is right here where i left it. Hope you’re enjoying your move.

  5. Welcome to New Hampshire! Of course moving is always stressful, but we hope with time you will grow to love it here. One of the best parts about New Hampshire is how friendly the locals are, don’t be afraid to reach out and explore!
