I’ve always been more prone to making a home in people instead of a location. But when you start over somewhere new, it’s so important to nest and love the place you are. People are great, but you need to love your home too.
Here are some tips for making somewhere your home.
- Personalize the crap out of your home
Our apartment is decked out with things that mean a lot to us. Most of our decor is unique and one of a kind, things we picked out together during our travels instead of HomeGoods. Whether it’s lots of photos or meaningful decor, personalize your home. - Start looking through Facebook events nearby
Looking for ways to start loving your city? I go through nearby Facebook events and mark interested in anything that seems fun. When that date comes up, we have lots of options for exploring! - Find the restaurant you love
This is so important, right? You have to nail down your pizza place, your favorite take out place, your favorite sit down place. Nothing makes me feel more at home than food. - Surround yourself with people who feel like home
Whether that’s your dog, your friends from back home, or your family. Make a point to keep those people in your life. - Meet a friend
Join a club, go on BumbleBFF, get close to your coworkers! All you need is one friend to really start fitting into a place.
Do you have any tips for making somewhere a home? Share them below!

Thank you for sharing this post. I am planning on relocating soon and your tips should be helpful.

I love this. I so want to move out of Oklahoma but my husband is a mama’s boy and won’t leave her lol which is fine, she’s an amazing woman.

in the relationship I’m in now, I made it very clear that I wasn’t going to be sticking around NJ and they had to be okay with it. But I def understand not wanting to leave family!

One of the things that makes the place yours is doing something in it. Having a great dinner on your dining room table, reading a great book on the porch. You’ve got to start making memories there.

Great tips Rosie, sounds like you’re settling into your new life so well. You can never have too many pizza places or friends though!

Love these! It can be hard to “start over” when you finish college and move away somewhere you don’t know anyone! These tips are great for that!

Love the tips you provided their so true! There is nothing worst than not feeling that sense of home. My husband and I moved to a new State 3 years ago and it has been up most importance to make our apartment “ours”. The sense of belonging and comfort we new in our previous home.

When I moved away for school I found it was nice to have something that I took care of and was mine. Of course a pet can take up time and $$ so I opted for a plant to water. A fish is also a great option for someone who doesn’t have a whole lot of time or money.

Awesome tips!! There’s just something so comforting about being a regular at your favorite local restaurant. When my fiancé and I first moved to where we live now, we were really intimidated. Decorating our apartment helped us so much! So did finding yummy restaurants nearby and hanging out with friends from work! 😊
