If you couldn’t tell by my name, I’m Irish. Technically, half-Irish. So of course, St. Patrick’s day has always held a special day in my heart.
Back in college, my St. Patrick’s Day traditions were probably not what you think. We always had spring break of St. Patrick’s Day so usually I would go down the shore with my whole family including my grandparents and cousins and watch the dinky parade. After my grandma passed away, we all got together for it and rallied my grandpa to go outside. Once they both passed away, the tradition faded out.
St. Patrick’s Day is also my sorority’s founder’s day, I know at this point they’ve been around for over 100 years. I’m pretty far removed from that part of my life now, but I still like to recognize it because that sorority gave me my best friends.
Now I just stick to simple. I’m a vegetarian, so no corned beef for me. But I always bake a loaf of irish soda bread! It’s something my boyfriend looks forward to every year now which is exciting. I’m not much of a baker, I stick to easy things and then I’ll make the Irish soda bread and I’ve tried my hand at Easter bread a few times.
Do you have any traditions for St. Patrick’s Day?
