I’m Emotionally Stupid

I googled the term “emotionally stupid” because I wanted to know if anyone else was as dumb as me when it comes to identifying their own emotions, specifically when it comes to romance. One of the first things that popped up was a question on Yahoo Answers asking: “Why are men so emotionally stupid???” There was a lot of argument, but a summary is that some people just don’t function emotionally like other people. A lot of people assume men are emotionally stupid because they don’t necessarily express themselves a lot or they just aren’t as sensitive as women. But there are a lot of emotionally stupid women too, I am one of them.

Being emotionally aware basically boils down to knowing yourself. Are you self aware and are you in control? If there’s a part of you that feels emotionally unaware, you might just need to work on your sense of self before finding someone else.

There could also be a problem with being too self aware. You know what you want and you know how to get it, but there is just some kind of disconnect between the going after and the getting. So you feel emotionally stupid.

As someone who has been working on their sense of self for more than two years, this is extremely frustrating. Because really, how many things need to happen in your life before you finally understand who you are? And does anyone ever really know who they are?

So are you emotionally stupid or just waiting for the right person to come along to connect those emotions to? If you can’t figure out how you feel about someone, it’s probably because that person is not the butterflies and fairytales person you’re meant to fall in love with. You may be emotionally stupid right now, but it’s just because you haven’t met the person who puzzle pieces into your emotional intellect.

Your feelings will decipher themselves when they become strong enough. Work on your self and the feelings you can understand. You’re never as emotionally stupid as you think you are.

  1. At times, everyone is emotionally stupid. They could even realize it, and know better. But they choose to be or they just are through no fault of their own. Hopefully, we learn from being like this later on. And it seems, wherever you are emotionally, the right guy can come along at any time. Thanks

  2. Sometimes I think the biggest error we can make is to assume that emotions were meant to be mastered. It’s okay not to understand why you feel flat even when everything in life is seemingly okay.

Maybe your nor emotionally stupid, but emotionally intelligent for recognising your feelings in the first place and at least making an attempt to understand the reasons why.

  3. I know what it feels like! And very nicely put šŸ˜‰ you are not alone šŸ™‚ and when I have feelings I can’t connect to a person, I just connect them with myself (just the good ones though! Appreciation, love, kindness and gratefulness) šŸ™‚ thanks for sharing!

  4. The term I use is emotional maturity. I had a rude awakening last year when I learned that I am emotionally immature, and I was told this to my face which turned out to be true. This year, I toughened up but this coronavirus thing is really testing me right now.
