Hi friends! I am now writing to you as a funemployed adult who is uhhhhhhhh freaking out.
There’s no ideal time to lose your job, but I would think a pandemic is really the least ideal time to lose your job. I’m now one of those 40 million or so people in America who lost their job due to budget cuts, lay offs, etc.
I knew it was coming, we knew there would be cuts to our company at the end of the fiscal year. I wasn’t even 100% happy with my job. But still it stings to be told your position was one of hundreds chosen to be eliminated. It makes me a little bitter and a little sad.
I cried pretty much every time someone said something nice to me. I grew up a lot through this organization, it was my second job out of college. I was only 22 when I started and now I’m 27 – it just feels massively different.
I’m holding on to the fact that this could be a blessing in disguise. I’m still a baby in the workforce and have been in the same kind of job role for four years knowing that I would probably be much happier somewhere else. Now I have the push to try to find that something else – I just wish it would’ve happened with more stability.
Things will work out. You’ll take your experiences somewhere else and they will take you somewhere.

Who knows – months or years from now you could be so happy it happened. Things have a tendency to resolve themselves, but I do understand the struggle of making ends meet. Best of luck to you!

I am so sorry to hear that. Losing a job sucks. But I do genuinely feel that losing a job often leads to something better. Especially since you said you felt you’d be happier somewhere else. You’ll find something better for you.

Rosie, hang in there. I know it’s easier said than done but do it anyway. I had to shut down my dog-sitting business because of the virus. It’s now been 4 months. In the meantime I have been working on my writing career. Perhaps you can work on something you have been wanting to pursue but couldn’t before. Whatever you decide, God be with you.

Oh, my friend I am so sorry. I have been down this road a time or two and its never fun. I hope you can draw unemployment for a while. This is a scary time to be out of work unfortunately but hold on and hang in there. Grace and peace to you.

Man that sucks, but at least you won’t be looked at like a millennial job hopper since you were laid off. The sky’s the limit and you built yourself a pretty good stepping stone for the perfect job. Hang in there darling and try to take advantage of your free time. Gosh I wish I had some free time right about now…

I heard something the other day that really resonated with me. “Things don’t happen to you. They happen to you.” Down the road from now, this event will make sense, even if it doesn’t seem fair right now. Better things are coming!

Sad news Rosie, so sorry to hear that you’ve been laid off. It’s a horrible feeling and never ever feels fair but you are so right in trying to see it as an opportunity for better things. Not easy to do but if you can look forward rather than back then it will hopefully be a chance to grow. Just remember, it’s not personal just business and they are the idiots for letting you go.

Ah so hard not to take it personally but hundreds of people were laid off so I have to keep reminding myself of that. Thank you!

You’re pretty wise to discern that this could be a blessing in disguise. Keep the faith in the universe and in yourself as you work through this transition.
