I guess this is growing up.
I’ve been pretty adamant the past couple years that I wouldn’t be buying a house any time soon. Why would anyone settle down? Why wouldn’t you want to move constantly and explore?
It’s because moving suckssssss.
I’ve lived in 7 places in the last 5 years. At first, it was exciting. And I really wasn’t ready to settle down anywhere, that’s why we were so eager to move to New Hampshire. Our New Hampshire apartment was the first place I had spent more than a year in a long time. And even now, we’re not ready to buy a house. Not 100% ready to commit to somewhere for a long period of time.
But I am ready to commit to more space. To a yard. To not boxing up 5 rooms worth of stuff and paying for a truck and movers – things we frankly can’t afford to have to hire every year.
I didn’t get it at first, why everyone would rush to buy a house. Why boomers would shove it down our throats. But I get it now. I get the advantages in the long run. And you’ll probably see me buying a house in the next five years.
I truly believe the desire own homeownership is based on how you grew up. I grew up in the country in a small 3 bedroom house with my parents and brother. Sure by bedroom was the smallest, but we had 2 acres-worth of backyard and a neighboring church yard to play in. I did the apartment/townhome living when I first moved out, some with roommates, some without, but I always knew that I would buy a house the first chance I could. I adore my house and love turning it into our home.

The yard is 10000% the selling point for owning a home. I like making our apartments homey but it would be nice to have something more permanent

I just want a tiny house in the desert on an acre with no neighbours within peeping Tom distance. 😂

I’m dreaming of living at least a month at the beach and a month at the mountain. But on the other hand when I grow older I just want to get a house and enjoy the simple life. So think it depends on our value, when we’re young we want to explore and live anywhere we want and when we’re older we just to settle and live a peaceful life.
