While job interviewing is grueling, it is cool to see how interview styles differ from person to person, from company to company.

One of the best questions I was asked was: what have you learned recently?

It’s a good question because it’s basically asking if you’re evolving, growing, bettering yourself all on your own volition.

And as someone who loves to learn, I loved this question.

Basically when any topic is brought up in my life, I end up googling it and reading more. My boyfriend and I once spent a good amount of time on a road trip reading on how residents of states designate themselves, for example, New Jerseyan or New Hampshirite.

So, some things I’ve learned recently:

  1. I thought that it wasn’t PC to use “American Indian” anymore, but I recently learned you can still use it along with Native American. But if you’re able to ask someone what term they prefer, then that is best! Source.
  2. I learned that some snails are hermaphrodites and can reproduce on their own.
  3. I’ve been learning to write in AMA style which has been interesting because it’s like unlearning everything I’ve ever been taught.
  4. I learned that metadata descriptions should be between 50-160 characters

  1. One thing I have learned is change is evident. There is nothing we can do to stop it from happening. We just need to embrace it when it happens and make the necessary adjustments.

  2. I wrote a blog today on how I learned that drinking TOO much water is poisonous 🤭🤣
    And I learned that reheating spinach (which I was always taught was deadly) is not that big of a deal anymore these days 🤭

  3. So…i just learned something from this post – as somoeone who does a lot of job interviews I’m always keen on new and interesting questions to ask 🙂

  4. I’ve not only recently learned how to build furniture, but I’ve successfully accomplish my breakfast nook complete with storage and handmade cushions. 🙂 I love learning new things, especially skills.

    Also, in the spirit of learning, the one fact I like to share with people that I learned while working as a florist is that Tulips are poisonous to other flowers, so don’t ever put them in a vase with others or they will kill them very quickly.

      1. Make sure to cut the bottom of the stems (at an angle) before putting them in a vase. Also, because tulips don’t stop growing after they’re cut they constantly need fresh water, so you should dump and refill their vase every day or every other day. They also don’t like a lot of heat, so keep them away from direct sunlight, lamps, and heat registers. They much prefer a cooler areas.
