I miss traveling so much, but I’ve come to terms with the fact that we won’t be traveling out of the country in 2021, I doubt we will even try to do so until late 2022. So I am deeming this year the year of domestic travel. Which is honestly great for me because I have been to a good amount of countries, but haven’t seen a whole lot of the United States.
We flew out to Key West in May and our upcoming plans include stops in New Hampshire, Connecticut, New York, and Kentucky. I’m sure as the year goes on, we’ll make more plans to touch on some states that we haven’t been to before. It would be even more ideal if we could road trip to them instead of fly!
The upside to domestic travel is that it doesn’t take a lot of advanced planning, especially if we’re staying on the east coast. The downside is, it’s more expensive. The reason we’ve gone out of the country so much is because we’ve been able to find great travel packages to Iceland, Egypt, etc. that a 5 day trip to California would cost – probably less.
The pandemic gave us a lot of opportunity to explore locally, and now that we’re hopefully moving out of the pandemic I’m excited to take advantage of the opportunity to explore a little more domestically.
Do you have any trips coming up? Tell me about your plans in the comments!
I’m from the UK and I didn’t start holidaying abroad until I met my partner about nine years ago. It’s so fun to explore and see new places but I still really like doing that within the Uk itself and much like yourself, we’re not even thinking of going abroad this year and maybe even next.

My boyfriend and I are similar to your situation! He didn’t start traveling outside the US until we started dating and now we are both addicted 🙂

I’m going to the US Virgin Islands (St. Croix) in T minus 8 days!! It’s no trip to Scotland for a wedding in a castle, but I don’t freakin’ care anymore–I just need to get the hell up out of dodge!

I’m too scared to travel overseas or anywhere actually. But sometimes I long for new place, so what we usually do is visit places locally and check out other places. Our last visit was in New Hope, PA and we definitely loved it.

I feel you! I live in Minnesota and last year we spend most weekends camping at different State Parks but once winter hit we decided to take advantage of work-fom-home and temporarily move to South Carolina. As for 2021, we are still doing a lot of camping but also have trips to Arizona, St. Louis and North Carolina planned. I was longingly looking at old photos the other day from when I was in Peru in 2017…it feels like forever since I’ve been abroad but I’m trying to remind myself that in the grand scheme of things it’s only for a little while longer!
Good luck with your domestic travels! – Casey

Love that you temporarily moved! I’m so jealous of people who had the opportunity to do that! 🙂 Good luck to you too!

No trips… I’ve been too anxious and stressed to plan anything… although maybe I really should.

Same here, domestic travel. Your destinations sound much more glamourous than mine! We dare not even leave WA at the moment due to borders constantly being closed on a whim. Enjoy your travels

Enjoy your travels! I am planning an 8k mile trip around the country with my kiddos this fall…it might turn into a handful of smaller out-and-back trips though.

I’m heading to Mexico with my parents in October. We’re all vaccinated and planning on spending our time outdoors and away from crowds. I have the RV, so it’s just another spot to call home for a month, for me! Excited to go to Mexico though.
Are we still barred from Canada? You’re pretty close. Maybe you could cross the northern border.

I’m pretty sure Canada is still closed! My state, New Jersey, is relatively high risk right now anyway so I doubt I’ll be out of the country any time soon

Spot on! Any sort of imprisonment, restriction, makes you appreciate the freedom you had until that moment, right? Looking on a bright side, I hope we’d all crawl out of this pandemic with a bit more sense of gratitude for what it’s in front of us! 🙂 Nice post once again!
I just started and will write a very unusual story on my travel around the globe.

I’m based in the UK, but I love travelling and exploring Africa. Due to restrictions it wasn’t possible, so our neighbour Wales was the next choice for me and boy was it beautiful!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts – a beautifully written blog.

Sadly, up until last month, I could only travel within my Territory. Our territorial government required two weeks of isolation if we left the Northwest Territories, which prevented me from travelling domestically within Canada. However, now that restrictions have finally eased a year and a half later, I will be travelling domestically this upcoming week to Jasper. I am excited to finally be able to travel again! It’ll be my first time traveling in 2021.

The best time to see New England might be in the weeks ahead with the fall foliage. Safe travels!
