Nothing like a trip to the hospital and getting your appendix removed to put life into perspective for you.
Overall, I feel REALLY lucky and grateful this past week. I’m glad my fiancé pushed me to go to the hospital and that the staff was so great. I got lots of love from my family and friends. And I didn’t have to worry about returning to work right away.
In pre-COVID times, I wouldn’t have been able to shrug this off and say I can just work from home. So I’m grateful that I was able to take a few days off from work but resume this week from bed.
And while the timing is never great for these things, because it happened at the end of the week I had time to recover. I did unfortunately miss a friend’s wedding but it was something I could afford to miss because I wasn’t part of the bridal party and Matt still got to go which was great.
I also just think I needed some time to relax. Though relaxing while in pain is not super relaxing, I caught up on sleep and even revisited my Animal Crossings island. The holiday season is SO busy and life has just been so busy for me in general. It’s nice to take a step back and put everything into perspective.

I agree. Several years ago, I suffered burnout. I had a dog-sitting client who I was working all these weird hours for. I took a couple weeks off and afterwards sat down with the client insisting on a regular schedule. I also asked for a day’s advance notice if there was going to be a change. Nothing is more important than taking care of yourself.
