April Recap

Starting a new fun post for the end of every month where I go over my favorites for the month!

Favorite show: A Series of Unfortunate Events, Season 2.

Favorite memory: Adopting Kaya! Having a dog has been challenging, but so rewarding. The sense of responsibility Kaya has given me has really kicked my butt into gear.

Favorite place: A great hike at Delaware and Raritan Canal, one hike down and one to go for my bucket list!

Favorite meal: It was from Zoe’s Kitchen, I’m really obsessed with falafel lately.

Favorite Instagram: I had a lot of favorites this month!! I think I’ll go with this one.

Favorite Tweet: This great meme.

Favorite book: My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella.

Favorite blog post: The Yes Theory

Favorite collaboration: I received a few great products this month, but I have to give main praise to this flosser. It’s a huge lifesaver for me as I am trying to avoid as much dental work as possible.

What’s one of your favorite things from April?

6 More Things That Make Me A Happier Person

When you’re in a not-so-great place, it is not easy to find five things that will cheer you up. But as you grow, you begin to add to that list. You find more and more things that help put you in the direction you want to be in. The direction of happiness.

Here are five things that made me a happier person when I was a not so happy person. And here are six things that make me a happier person now that I am in a better place:

  1. Celebrating every little thing
We accomplish things on a daily basis and those things should be recognized. You and the people you surround yourself should be proud of everything that you work for. So if you got a raise at work, or hit a goal you’ve been working towards, or just got out of bed today – pop a bottle of champagne because you deserve it.
  2. Writing down what I’m grateful for
Every day I write 10 things I am grateful for in what I call my gratitude journal. Sometimes it’s not easy to come up with 10, sometimes it is. It really makes me reflect on the great things I have in my life.
  3. Picking up an activity that clears your mind
This should be something you can do alone. Get a coloring book. Read a book. I recently started going to yoga classes, but now I can try and practice that alone at home as well.
  4. Setting achievable and reach goals
Ever since I started writing down what I want to achieve, I started accomplishing more. It’s easy to accomplish something like “change my hair in the month of January” and I still feel the reward. It’s a little harder to accomplish things like “get a raise at work” but writing it down will get you there.
  5. Letting go of the things I can’t change for people
I used to feel guilty, a lot, because I’m introverted and often just don’t enjoy going out every weekend or making non stop plans. I am starting to put things into perspective where that’s a part of me that doesn’t need to change and everyone just needs to accept it.
  6. A positive mindset
It seems so simple, but we go into most things negatively whether we mean to or not. Do you want to be happier this year? Then think happy thoughts as often as you can.

Love Without The Drama

Every relationship I’ve ever been in was built on uncertainty. They were just like the movies, where there would be some sort of conflict and unrequited love. It was exciting, it made me think that all love needs to be that way. That we need to overcome some kind of problem in order to truly appreciate each other.

Is there love without the drama? I find it hard to believe that every relationship needs to be built off of some kind of crisis. But that’s just what I’m used to, I’m used to having to fight for it.  Even though my past relationships didn’t work out, it doesn’t mean there wasn’t something done right in all of that wrong.

Can it all just be smiles and butterflies? On one hand, I’ve heard that love is a constant uphill battle. But on the other hand, I’ve heard when it’s the one everything is easy. I feel like it can’t be both.

Without the drama, there just seems to be a lack of excitement. And as someone who grew up on star crossed lovers and as a hopeless romantic, I just don’t know if I can commit to a drama free love. Bella couldn’t be with Edward because he was a vampire. I couldn’t be with one of my exes because of an age difference. We like to be able to fight for someone – so what do we do when they’re just sitting in the palm of our hands, no problems in sight?

All we want to do is fall in love, we’re all so addicted to the feeling. We want someone to want us, we want to be needed, we want everything we’ve read in the books or we’ve seen in the movies. Can love really be easier than we thought it was? Can you get everything you’ve ever wanted and more without putting your life on the line for someone?  Can that addicting love be obtained without all of the drama?

We’re just not used to things in life being simple, especially when it comes to love.

The Hookup On: Top 10 Books That Changed My Life

Thanks Sub Soare for nominating me to do this! It’s hard to even think of all the books I’ve read, many of them have actually never made a huge impact on me. Here are ten books that changed my life, kind of in order:

  1. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
  2. Burned by Ellen Hopkins
  3. Crank by Ellen Hopkins
  4. The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
  5. Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyers (don’t judge me guys!!)
  6. 19 Minutes by Jodi Picoult
  7. The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins
  8. The Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth
  9. Leftovers by Laura Weiss
  10. How It Ends by Laura Weiss

Of course each book has a very special reason as to why they made the list – but I think it’s more fun not to share 🙂 Let me know if you’ve read any of these or if you have any book recommendations!

I’m nominating a few people to do this, but you’re not obligated to 🙂

The Hookup On: My Summer Bucket List

It has been proven that writing down your goals will help you to achieve them, but to share your goals with others will hinder your success.

I definitely think there’s a little truth to both parts. So while I’m sharing my summer bucket list with you, I will keep some of my goals a secret – but most I will share here with you 🙂

  1. Read 25 books
  2. Get back into a fitness routine
  3. Visit Nashville
  4. Visit Washington D.C.
  5. Reach 1000 WordPress followers
  6. Dye my hair a crazy color
  7. Shop at farmer’s markets/more locally
  8. Visit the beach at least once a month
  9. Paint a cooler

  14. Visit at least 5 outdoor parks
  15. Go to at least 5 concerts
  16. Go to a soccer game
  17. Watch Italy win the Eurocup
  18. Be happy

Let me know some of the items from your bucket list! And if you have any suggestions for me, I’m open 🙂

I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award! Thank you so much to Matt and His Cats for the nomination. I completed this award once before so you can check out the blogs I nominated here. I wanted to answer these questions anyway because I’m always so grateful to be nominated for an award – so thank you so much Matt!

  1. What is your go to beverage, either at a bar or cafe/ restaurant?

I’m literally always drinking Diet Coke.

2. Have you got a book/ book series you’ve read more than twice?

I’ve read Burned by Ellen Hopkins too many times to count.

3. What is your favourite holiday and why?

Halloween! Because it’s fun, spooky, and just a good time.

4. How long have you been blogging for?

A little over a year now.

5. What was your first home like/ If you haven’t moved out yet, what do you imagine your first home to be like?

In the future I imagine myself in a small apartment or house, nothing grand, but very quirky.

6. Are you a Cat or Dog person?

Dog!

7. Would you rather be a Viking or Roman soldier?

Maybe a Roman soldier? Plus I’m already Italian so I’d fit in.

8. Would you rather be a Pilot or a Sailor?

Pilot!

9. Would you rather be a fox or a horse?

A horse, though I wouldn’t mind being a fox I’d just feel a little more defenseless.

10. What is your favourite Pokemon?

Snorlax 🙂

11. Would you experience the life of a millionaire for a year, if it meant living on minimum wage for ten years afterwards?

No, only because the difficulties of living on minimum wage would be too much for me to handle and being a millionaire doesn’t appeal to me that much.
