The Hookup On: Holiday Shopping

I am not a good gift giver. When birthdays, holidays, and anniversaries roll around I all of a sudden forget about any interests the person I’m buying for has. I brainstorm ideas all year, then the date rolls around and I’m completely blank.

I never thought I would find an affordable personal shopper option until I learned about Occasion Station. With the free version, you can create a station for a loved one and fill it with all the special occasions you want to remember for that person. You’ll receive email reminders from the system when that date is approaching. For a little more money, you can activate one of the personal gift shoppers and they will complete the task of buying, wrapping and shipping the gift for you.

And how do I know that Occasion Station sends good gifts and really nails the personalization? Because they sent me two AMAZING gifts to prove to me and to share with all of you how awesome their services is. My personality boils down to two things – the sloth being my spirit animal as I am lazy and quite sleepy, and eating donuts as much as possible.

GUYS look at these gifts! When I opened the box I audibly said “oh my god” and danced around my room alone. I can’t wait to see what Occasion Station will choose for my holiday shopping. Since Christmas is just around the corner, I thought this was a great time to share with you all this easy option!

Are you a good gift giver? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Thanksgiving!

To all who are on WordPress today –

Happy Thanksgiving! I am forever grateful for anyone who is reading this right now or for anyone who has read my blog ever.

I have changed and grown over the past two years, much of which I was able to cope with because of this community. Because sometimes I complained about boys and you guys related. Because sometimes I was completely lost and you guys gave me advice. Because sometimes I reached awesome goals and you guys congratulated me.

I am thankful for all of you and hope you have the best Thanksgiving and holiday weekend!

xoxo

Travel Realistically In Your 20’s

I honestly can’t stand all of the articles I read that are like “You’re in your 20’s! Quit your job and open up an ice cream shack in the Bahamas!” or “Don’t worry about getting a job – backpack through Europe and find yourself!”

Come on, I live with my parents and barely saved any money in college. I need a job and can’t just up and go anywhere without money therefore I need that job. Also, I really like where I live – why do I need to go live somewhere completely foreign to me just because I’m in my 20’s?

Most of the things I read are so unrealistic. They make me feel bad because I’m not a free spirit obsessed with wanderlust.

But there are some realistic things you can do and should do in your 20’s and travel is one of them! Just not to that extreme.

You’re working your first real job and living at home. You’re saving more money than you’ve ever saved and spend a majority of your time at work. You don’t live with your friends anymore and only see them on occasion. The time after graduating college is your first real and true taste of monotony.

So you need to break it up. Chances are, you don’t have a party planned every weekend. Chances are, you spend a lot of weekends alone doing nothing. It’s just the circumstances. I don’t think you need to fill every weekend to the brim with fun and friends – but you should take advantage of this open time.

You can travel locally. Go to a different state you’ve never been to before, you don’t even have to stay overnight if you don’t have the cash! Or go to a different country – Canada and Mexico border the United States and you’re probably not too far from either. Go for a weekend, do some research, and make it cheap!

Go on a road trip, you’ve probably never even seen your own country! You get paid vacation time now, you need to take advantage of it. Yea, you could take off a week around the holidays to hang out with your family. Or you could go on a kick ass vacation. And if you plan it right, you can totally afford it!

Even if you can’t travel – you need to do something new. Jump in the ocean in the winter. Run a marathon. Learn a new hobby – bake or knit or paint! Don’t let your life become the 9-5 bore that you dreaded all four years of college.

Everyone always says “do it while you’re young.” Well, now’s that time! Sure – a lot of things seem impossible. Up and moving to Hawaii or traveling through Australia for months. They’re fun ideas, but way out of reach. Find the things that are within your reach and grasp them. Instead of blowing $50 or more at the bar you always go to, put it towards a new experience. You’re in your 20’s, you’re resourceful and able, take advantage of it.

I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award! Thank you so much to Matt and His Cats for the nomination. I completed this award once before so you can check out the blogs I nominated here. I wanted to answer these questions anyway because I’m always so grateful to be nominated for an award – so thank you so much Matt!

  1. What is your go to beverage, either at a bar or cafe/ restaurant?

I’m literally always drinking Diet Coke.

2. Have you got a book/ book series you’ve read more than twice?

I’ve read Burned by Ellen Hopkins too many times to count.

3. What is your favourite holiday and why?

Halloween! Because it’s fun, spooky, and just a good time.

4. How long have you been blogging for?

A little over a year now.

5. What was your first home like/ If you haven’t moved out yet, what do you imagine your first home to be like?

In the future I imagine myself in a small apartment or house, nothing grand, but very quirky.

6. Are you a Cat or Dog person?

Dog!

7. Would you rather be a Viking or Roman soldier?

Maybe a Roman soldier? Plus I’m already Italian so I’d fit in.

8. Would you rather be a Pilot or a Sailor?

Pilot!

9. Would you rather be a fox or a horse?

A horse, though I wouldn’t mind being a fox I’d just feel a little more defenseless.

10. What is your favourite Pokemon?

Snorlax 🙂

11. Would you experience the life of a millionaire for a year, if it meant living on minimum wage for ten years afterwards?

No, only because the difficulties of living on minimum wage would be too much for me to handle and being a millionaire doesn’t appeal to me that much.

7 Reasons Why You Should Love Halloween

It may sound weird to you, but Halloween has always been my favorite holiday. Here’s why:

1.You can be whatever you want

It’s the one day a year you can dress up as someone else, forget about who you are for a while, and not be judged for it.

2. It’s a holiday for all ages

When Christmas comes around, I don’t have butterflies in my stomach anymore while waiting for Santa. I may not be Trick or Treating anymore, but I’m still dressing up for Halloween!

3. There are countless fun fall activities leading up to Halloween.

Pumpkin picking, pumpkin carving, apple picking, jumping in piles of leaves, etc. So. much. fun.

4. It’s a kick off to the best holidays of the year!

First you’re celebrating Halloween, and then Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are around the corner.

5. Halloween movies are the best movies.

13 Nights of Halloween > 25 Days of Christmas.

6. Halloween has a different vibe than any other holiday.

It’s scary! There’s no forced family time and the pressure to be filled with the heartwarming holiday spirit. It’s goofy, odd, and enjoyable – no pressure.

7. Candy.

Enough said.
