The Hookup On: VII Code Eye Masks

It was about two months ago when I woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and realized I looked like I hadn’t slept in two months. Maybe I haven’t, but I didn’t know the toll it was taking on the bags under my eyes! I look sleepy, I have purple pockets under my eyes, and I just look worn down!

I think you reach a certain point where the fear of aging really starts to strike. I’m still young, but I’ve definitely noticed that I don’t look like my 21 year old springy self anymore.

I’ve started battling the effects of aging and one thing I tried was VIIcode O2M eye masks! I wear them for 8 hours while I sleep every 2-3 days, which is so different from other sheet masks. They are an oxygenating mask that are meant to revive the bags under your eyes over night! I find this so convenient because I now wake up in the morning looking fresh and ready for the day. It really takes some time off of getting ready because I don’t have to conceal my under-eye bags anymore.

The gel-like material is the real feature of the mask, they are like little patches with a cool gel that conforms to the shape of your eye. They are so comfortable to sleep in and the cooling membrane is such a nice feeling after a long day of staring at the computer for work. It is even recommended to keep them in the refrigerator, they are so cool and soothing to put on before bed!

If you’re a tosser and turner, you can even wear them during the day when you’re watching tv or lounging about. I did this a few times because I roll around a lot when I sleep!

I’m sharing my results below because I’m so impressed! I started with deep purple under eye bags and ended with my 21 year old springy eyes again!

An Appearance Slump

I don’t know if I should chalk it up to weather or laziness, but I’ve been in a slump with my appearance.

I rarely do my hair, just throw it up in a pony or let it be its frizzy, wavy self. I put eyeliner on maybe once a week, my make up is always bare minimum. Unless I’m going out on the weekend, my appearance is always a little half assed.

Even when we go out to dinner after work or out to take a walk, I opt for sweatpants and minimal make up. Which is fine sometimes, but eventually your self esteem takes a hit because you’re not really taking care of yourself.

I can’t really blame myself for falling into this slump. I see the same people almost every day of the week. I have the same routine. What’s the point in jazzing it up and spending time getting ready when I could be sleeping?

The weather warmed up this week and I really realized the neglect I’ve been imposing on myself and the impact your appearance and inner confidence has on other people. The weather put me in a better mood so I threw on a dress and had a great day. Then I put on a skirt the next day with some lipstick and I got so many “good mornings” and another great day!

I took selfies this weekend, felt good about myself, and felt motivated enough to want to start my healthier habits of eating better and working out more. That has been a goal for me for so long, but I just couldn’t get out of the slump.

Just a little extra effort has gone a long way for me. Have you ever had an appearance slump?

Why I Wear Lipstick On Tuesdays

Most people hate Mondays. And I understand why. You come back into work from a fun weekend with tons of emails and a lagging brain.

But I don’t hate Mondays. I like coming in refreshed from the weekend and catching up on everything. It’s Tuesdays, the day where all of my work piles up on me, that really causes me a lot of stress.

It got to the point where the dread was so heavy that I needed to figure out something to do. Our office tries to not wear black on Tuesday, because let’s face it we all wear black probably way too often. But apparently it’s also bad for your chakra – I don’t know if this is true, but I can’t really afford any more bad juju.

I also took it upon myself to wear lipstick on Tuesdays. It is just the one thing that makes me feel pretty and the one thing that brightens my day. I start my Tuesdays with a bright pink smile and that makes it just the tiniest bit better.

It’s the little things that make a big difference. We can’t always make the changes we want, I can’t just not come into work on Tuesdays. But I can make the whole experience a little brighter and better.

And that’s how I try to approach everything in life. I might not be able to change the bad things completely, but I can make them a little more bearable if I try.

8 Things I Don’t Like About Myself

A couple of days ago I wrote about the things I care too much about. It’s refreshing to see all of the things you need to let go written down in a list. Therefore, I decided to write down the things I don’t like about myself in hopes that I can one day let those go as well.

  1. Being introverted
A lot of people just don’t understand the amount of time I need alone.
  2. My roots are too dark for my blonde hair
And literally this is always a problem
  3. My weight
I think I started my first diet in like 7th grade, I’ve always been insecure about it.
  4. Being self conscious without make up
I don’t go anywhere without it
  5. My pessimism
I’m very realistic and this often causes me to be pessimistic
  6. My fear of public speaking
    I seriously suck at it
  7. My overthinking
    It drives me insane
  8. I get easily frustrated
Why can’t people just stop doing annoying things?hc

6 Things I Care Too Much About

I care a lot, I pretend not to care a lot. There are many things that I pay no mind to – but there are just some things that I care too much about. That don’t deserve as much attention as they get. It’s the ugly truth, these are the things I care too much about:

  1. How much I weigh
It’s not even the number that haunts me, but any extra jiggle.
  2. How many likes I get on Instagram
Guys I know it doesn’t matter, but it kind of matters.
  3. Going out without make up on
I’ve seriously been conditioned to wear make up, I’ve been wearing it since I was like 13 and don’t think I’ve left the house without it since then.
  4. When friends hang out without me
Idk why I get fomo because I probably didn’t want to go anyway
  5. When everyone looks better than I do
Like, I’m the one who decided to look like bum at dinner but everyone else is in heels with curled hair.
  6. Almost everything I can’t control
I overthink those little things to death.

Blush Voxbox Review

I received a box from Influenster this month for free! It was filled with all types of goodies that could come in handy for wedding season – which is perfect for me because I just so happen to be a bridesmaid this summer. I was super excited about getting some cruelty free products as well!

Cruelty free:

Simple Make Up Remover Wipes

Is there anything better for a lazy girl than make up remover wipes? I have pretty sensitive skin, so Simple is a great brand for gentle products that won’t be too harsh on your skin. Plus they’re cruelty free so I 10/10 recommend 🙂

Ardell Lashes

I’ve never used fake lashes before!! But I was super stoked to receive these, they look SO natural and aren’t too chunky on my eye lids. They can be a little sticky, but this was also my first time applying lashes and I wasn’t great at it. They are also cruelty free so I would 9/10 recommend 🙂

Not Cruelty Free:

Pantene Expert Shampoo and Conditioner

I’ve made the switch to sulfate free shampoo and conditioner for the most part, as far as I can tell these are not sulfate free. I don’t wash my hair often so using a sulfate product every once in a while won’t kill me, but Pantene is also not cruelty free. Did it get my hair clean? Yes, but I didn’t notice a huge difference. 4/10 recommend

Secret Clinical Strength Deodorant

I have not made the switch to better-for-you deodorant products. I know I need to. Secret is not a cruelty free company. It worked, it kept me dry and nice smelling – but I am also not one of those people who need extra strength deodorant. It was an okay product. 4/10 recommend.

Perfect Details

Perfectdetails.com sells jewelry and accessories for brides and the wedding party. I received a 15% off coupon, but didn’t buy anything because I’m pretty broke. I might pass it on to my family. The stuff on the website looks cute, unique, and fairly priced for fancier products so I would sort of recommend it.

Are you on Influenster? Did you get this Voxbox – let me know what you think in the comments!

Buying Cruelty Free: Wet N Wild Setting Spray

So I got a free sample of Urban Decay setting spray from Sephora once and didn’t start using it until a year later. Then I was unsure how I ever lived without a setting spray for my make up!!! Like it’s a must. And pretty inexpensive.

I read a post here that recommended Wet N Wild Photofocus Setting Spray. I just so happened to run out of that free sample at the time and basically went out and bought this the next day 🙂

I have been attempting to make my life as cruelty free as possible. As a vegetarian, I was completely unaware that most of my make up products were tested on animals. I just ignorantly believed that in 2016 most major companies wouldn’t see a need to test on animals anymore.

Is Wet N Wild cruelty free?: As a Peta-certified, cruelty-free brand, we’re proud to say we have never and will never test on animals. We also make it a point to work with cruelty-free, third-party vendors. wet n wild® loves our furry, scaly, and feathery friends!

They do also have a large listing of vegan products 🙂

I snagged this setting spray for $4.99 at Target. I do most of my make up shopping at drugstores because I’m pretty basic, but a lot of those drug store brands aren’t cruelty free so you need to be careful!

All in all, I love this setting spray! Keeps my face on during the work day and stops it from getting overly shiny and oily. It’s a big bottle for such a cheap price and I would definitely recommend!
