Where Has My Productivity Gone?

When stay at home orders first started, I was one of those people who was probably doing too much. I was trying to fill my time, trying new hobbies, working out more, working more, reading more, and just checking things off the list.

I was actively doing things to feel more productive. I would get ready in the morning, wake up a half hour before I had to log on to my computer, and enjoyed it all.

Unfortunately, now it just feels like the same old same old. When new things happen, even unfortunate ones like COVID-19, there’s this new burst of energy and change that motivates me.

I’ve lost all that energy. I don’t get dressed up for work in the morning, I barely get up when my alarm goes off, and I find myself crawling into bed at 7PM.

I’m hoping now that everything is opening up again, we can start to do some fun things in moderation and where we’re not exposing ourselves to large crowds. It’s really hard to focus on work when it’s all work and no play because everything is closed. Incorporating some more fun into my life might help. The opening orders couldn’t have come at a better time because I have no idea where all my motivation and productivity went.

  1. I got word that I’ll be returning to work on June 29th. I am a little nervous about it but I’m also looking forward to it. The being home every day is really starting to get to me. I know why we’re doing it and I’m one of those people who takes COVID-19 seriously, but being home every day has been exhausting.

  2. omg this is literally the perfect description. Initially like you I was pumped, I was excited to read more, clean and threw out so many things in my house, edited my long procrastinated vlogs on youtube, watch all the shows I wanna watch blah blah blah but then suddenly the motivation just left me and I’d literally go a whole week doing nothing, feeling too sad and that everything is “useless”
My lockdown is ending literally at midnight so I hope your country will do the same too! I just wanted you to know I feel the exact same way too and it’s normal to go through these ups and downs! Don’t worry, you don’t have to be productive, maybe actively let yourself chill instead of loathing yourself for it! I’m rooting for ya!

  3. How about going out to spend time with nature for a day? I feel like you need a break from quarantine life and it’s not such a bad idea to go somewhere for a change of pace.

  4. I have been having a very similar experience these days. At the beginning of the lockdowns, I took up a new side-project and was super-active on it. Nowadays, I feel burned out and less interested in working on my side-project. I now spend more time watching videos in my free time rather than working.

Hopefully, things will get better soon. 🤞🏻

  5. Couldn’t agree more!! I tried to fill my time by making a list and checking things off too! And I stopped doing those things now as well. 🤷🏻‍♀️
I don’t know what changed. Maybe it all got too redundant.
Hope everything gets better soon! 🤞🏼
